here Barnsley Accordion Newsletter October 2003 has been written by Chairman Peter Hinchliffe below First of all may I take this opportunity to thank you for your very kind concern shown to me during my recent illness, via get well cards, E-mails and visits to hospital and my home wishing me a speedy recovery I am improving daily and at our last meeting I agreed with ALEX to take over from him the job of producing this newsletter. Thanks again ALEX for seeing to the newsletter during the past three months. Seventeen members and wives attended our meeting in September falling short of the number of members I expected to attend, because of the fact that the meeting was held on Tuesday for the first time, and also the BARNSLEY ACCORDION CLUB was formed Ten years ago to the day. Founder member JOHN KENYON was unable to attend the meeting because he had the flu, and ALAN BUNTING was otherwise engaged at a booking. RAY BURGON spent a little time giving tuition to LIONEL COOPER and then we had the usual prize draw which was won by ERIC and his wife Some of our members attended the accordion festival at PAKEFIELD although reports from some of the members indicate that it was not as good as last years festival, complaints concerning the quality of the artists performing being the main reason why the festival failed to impress, the accordion festival at BRIDLINGTON took place recently but I have not heard how the event went. I see in the local paper that a concert is due to take place at the TRADES club on the date of our next meeting, so it looks as though we will be meeting in the upstairs room, please bring your music for Christmas carols, and we will concentrate more on playing as a group, before our usual round of accordion solos from members present at the meeting, which is on Tuesday 4-11-03. I heard a member raise a point at our last meeting, wanting to know how long it will take to learn to play the accordion, there is no simple answer to this question, it depends entirely on the effort put into the task by the student his teacher and practice. Also the desire in wanting to learn to play helps enormously. Our accomplished players are always willing to help other members who feel that they are struggling with a particular problem on learning to play. Most of our members have improved both their style and level of playing the accordion since joining the club, and the standard of playing will get even better as time goes by. Well, best wishes to you all ,hope to see you at the next meeting. PETER. |
