MARCH MEETING 2005

Hello All

Newsletter  March   2005

Dear Members,

Hello to all our members,  we had 11 people present at our March meeting even though  3 of our regular  members did not attend. Alex brought a young lady by the name of Rachel, who is learning to play the accordion and guitar as well as numerous other instruments,  and she also sings, we hope to see her attending our meetings on a regular basis.

Terry our treasurer provided the Accordion Club accounts to be signed by committee members  present at the meeting, and he also made a report concerning that once again we are fully paid up members of the Trades Club.

We received an E-mail via our website, from Romano Viazzani the accordionist who visited our club during november of last year to demonstrate the new Roland accordion. He wants to know if our club would be interested in having a brilliant young Italian accordionist  Mauro Carra play at Barnsley next year

as he is trying to arrange a U.K. tour for him, the E-mail was put to the members present at the meeting but no decision was made to book the player.

Alan Rodley played a tune on his guitar for us, which everyone enjoyed,  he is certainly making progress. Thanks Alan, well done and keep practising the chords so that you can provide some accompaniment to our group playing sessions.

We had a couple of rounds of members playing solo, then

Alex handed out copies of the number  “Play a simple melody” arranged in four parts, which we played as a group.

We decided that it would be better if we arranged our group around the front of the stage in future, making it easier for Alex to conduct and be seen by all the players in the group, rather than staying in the seats which we usually occupy for the whole of the evening. This would primarily be designed to enable us to play more neatly together, avoiding the timelag as the sound travelled from one end of the club to the other.

Terry and Alan went to the recent Accordion Festival at the Robin Hood Holiday Park at Rhyl, but the attendance figures were down on last year, even though the artistes booked were first class performers.

The next Accordion Festival is the one at Blackpool at the Norbreck Castle Hotel, Friday 13th- Monday 16th May 2005,  Telephone 01253 352341.

This Festival is presented by the Accordion Profile Magazine and will feature Frank Marocco international accordion star from the U.S.A.

Our next meeting will be on Wednesday 6th April at 7-30pm at the Trades Club, see you there.

Best Wishes

Peter Hinchliffe.
