The Newsletter March 2006
Barnsley Accordion Newsletters Dec/Jan 2005 written by chairman Peter Hinchliffe March MEETING 2006 Hello All Dear Members, Stuart Broadhead succeeded in his efforts to get our accordion club activities broadcast on the local radio station Dearne FM, just in time for the last meeting when Robert Thorn was guest artiste. Although both Stuart and I heard the information concerning the meeting, which was first broadcast three days prior to the meeting, it failed to bring in any new faces on the night but I suppose we ought to show more patience as any publicity on the whole must benefit our club. Once again the concert was a huge success, thanks to everyone concerned, the buffet was excellent, we had a fantastic selection of raffle prizes, and quite a good turnout to say that the weather was dreadfully cold and icy. Someone during the course of the evening did whisper in my ear that we ought to plan a pea and pie supper in the very near future, but I think we have done extremely well over the past winter months with all the food that has been provided for our meetings. To get back to the concert it would appear from remarks made by some members, that the return appearance of Robert Thorn, was too soon after his first appearance, and that he did not have the same impact on this second occasion. Also it was suggested that for the next concert that we have at the club, we book an accordionist with a broader range of musical ability, able to play classical and modern accordion music, in order to please the majority of members listening. Any suggestions from any member can be put forward at our next meeting for consideration by the rest of the members present. At the local market last week .I recognised the person standing next to me browsing as our old friend, Mrs Fellows, Douglas Fellows widow. She asked if I realised that three years had passed since the death of Douglas, I agreed and said that we all missed him at our club, she wished to be remembered to all the members and sends her best wishes. Mr & Mrs V Dyson of Bramley have informed me that they now have conflicting interests of a Wednesday, which means that they will not be able to make it to the accordion club meetings. The next meeting is on Wednesday 5-4-06, starting with a general discussion, then Ray Burgon would like to produce some sheet music for us to run through, playing as a group. We will have time for a couple of rounds of playing solo, before a busking session towards the end of the evening. Listen for the information advertising our club meeting, which is likely to be broadcast on Dearne FM Radio, at around 12-30&5-30 pm from next Monday. Looking forward to seeing you all at the next meeting. New Year meeting ,
