Hello all

The March meeting of the accordion club was attended by eight regular members, although Roger Van Loo, Ray Burgon and John Kenyon informed me prior to the meeting that they wouldn’t  be attending, and Steve Bognar was elsewhere on a birthday celebration. Stuart and I arrived at the meeting to find Alex making welcome four new people to the club, resulting in two new members who are  Mr John Nutbrown from Hoylandswaine, and Mr Chris Collins from Batley. Once again we welcome them both as new members of Barnsley Accordion Club and hope to see them on a regular basis at future meetings.

Terry treasurer to the club made a request for members to return their Trades Club membership cards at the next meeting, as these are due for renewal and it is easier for the Trades Club secretary to stamp old membership cards rather than make new cards. Also may I remind you that membership subscriptions for the Accordion Club are due and still only £5-00 for the year 2004.

I notice that we have an advert in this weeks Barnsley Chronicle informing the readers of the venue and dates of the Barnsley Accordion Club, but on a recent  visit to Rochdale Accordions, in conversation with three customers who purchased an accordion, two of them play the accordion and live in the Barnsley area, yet they have never heard of the Barnsley Accordion Club. So Stuart has  produced some posters, to be displayed at his business premises, the music shop on Shambles Street, Barnsley, and public notice boards around the local area. This will help to get our message out to the many accordion enthusiasts who are unaware of  the clubs existence and generate more interest in the activities of our club. On behalf of the rest of the club members I offer our thanks to Stuart for his efforts in promoting the Barnsley Accordion Club.

My wife Jan, and I went to the recent accordion festival at Rhyl, the weather was poor, being wet and very windy, but the entertainment was really top class, the two main accordionists at the festival, Mickael  Vigneau and  David  Vernon both brilliant solo accordionists, performed superbly. Harry Hussey, George Syrett and Rodney were in support providing good entertainment. I  asked David  Vernon if he would be interested in appearing at one of our club meetings as guest artist, and he is agreeable.

The next meeting of the Barnsley Accordion Club is on Wednesday  7th April 04 at  the Trades  Club, Racecommon  Road, Barnsley, bring your instruments

looking  forward to seeing you there.

                                                             Best Wishes  Peter Hinchliffe
