Accordion Newsletter June 2003 has been written by our Chairman Peter Hinchliffe below

Dear Members

There were 16 members present at our June meeting, although we were delayed in getting started due to the upstairs room being occupied by a party from the local council, we eventually gained admission to the room and went on to enjoy a really lovely, amicable evening It was a pleasant surprise to see the return of Mr Cooper, and also Frank Ponetio who brought along a small Hohner accordion that he is wanting to sell, anyone interested in the instrument please phone Frank MelvynWright won the raffle prize and he also gave us a solo on the accordion which he performed well, Mr Cooper played a solo on a borrowed instrument as he is quite unable to get his own instrument to the meetings, but he did well even though he is not used to playing on instruments other than his own.

I  would like to suggest that it might be a sensible idea for the accordion club to obtain a medium size instrument which with permission could be kept at the club and made available for any of our members or visitors to our club meetings, we can discuss this matter at our next meeting But to get back to the last meeting, we all had the opportunity to play solo, and the standard of playing is really good with a wide range of music being presented for our enjoyment

Refreshments provided by Jan my wife, followed the session of members solos, and we even had the stewardess carrying out the job of drinks waitress for our benefit

The sandwiches were delicious and went down well with the beer, all present being refreshed and contentWe continued with practice on a piece of music brought in by Ray Burgon and after running through the piece a couple of times we made it sound good and performed the playing of the parts as if we had spent more time playing the parts together, so we can do it when we try We really ought to concentrate on getting at least one piece of music polished off as a group, we all have copies of various pieces of music supplied to us at previous meetings so we can decide which piece we are going to choose at our next meeting.

Mrs Fellows our late chairmans widow, sends her gratitude and appreciation to members of the Barnsley Accordion Club, for the bunch of flowers that she received  during May.

Did any member manage to get a recording of the program broadcast by Radio Sheffield featuring Barnsley Accordion Club sometime earlier this year ? If so please tell us about it at the July meeting which will be on the 2-7-03 Hoping to see you all there and then

Best Wishes,

Peter Hinchliffe
