The Newsletter September 2004
Barnsley Accordion Newsletters January 2005 written by chairman Peter Hinchliffe JANUARY MEETING Hello All Newsletter JANUARY 2005 Dear Members, First of all I must apologise because I did not send out the December newsletter due to unforeseen circumstances at the time, this also means that there will be more news and gossip contained in this newsletter the first one of 2005, greetings to you all for the new year which will see the Barnsley Accordion Club and its members celebrating that the club was formed Twelve years ago, and is still going strong, thanks to all concerned. Terry our treasurer requires all members of the accordion club to return their Trades Club membership cards, for him to pay in subscriptions to the Trades Club. This is most important as a charge is made for new cards. At our next meeting we must consider an increase to the subscriptions payable to the accordion club, which is still the same as it was when the club was formed, twelve years ago. We had twenty-six people attend our Xmas party concert, Alan Bunting provided the entertainment, with assistance from his daughter who played keyboard. We had an enjoyable evening, plenty of food and drink, lots of raffle prizes but, our contribution of music for xmas carols left a lot to be desired. Our timing was way out and the vocalists who were supplied with song sheets , found it impossible to keep in time with our playing. It sounded as if there were three different groups of accordionists playing, each group failing to keep in time with the next, embarrassing to say the least. We must concentrate more on our group playing. Ray Burgon came over to see me earlier this month and told me that the Sheffield Accordion Club concert in aid of The Homeless And Roofless At Christmas, raised £1,085, also, some members of the Sheffield Club, including Ray and Terry from ourclub, played carols and had a busking session on the forecourt at Sheffield railway station, which raised a further £142-00. Ray made some suggestions concerning the Barnsley Accordion Club which he will put to the next meeting of members. Our January meeting was attended by twelve members, Alex our secretary was down in Cornwall visiting his parents, John Kenyon was ill, but we did have the company of John Higham from Cheshire. The meeting started with a discussion on laying out a timetable for club meetings, then it was agreed that the more accomplished players would spend a little time helping out the learners before each meeting. Then we had a session of playing solos followed by group playing and a bit of busking, something to please all members present. Quite a positive meeting enjoyed by all, I hope the next meeting of Barnsley Accordion Club which is due Wednesday next 02-02-05 is as successful as the January meeting. BEST WISHES, PETER
