Two extra Reasons to attend our Next Meeting Wednesday 5th February

BBC Radio Sheffield
has contacted us via our website to ask to do a programme on our club and there will probably be a representative at our next meeting.

Can we ask all members to make a special effort to get to our next Meeting on Wednesday 5th February 2003 on the occasion of the AGM (hopefully the AGM will not last too long so that our playing time will not be much affected.   Don’t forget to bring your ideas for the future. All best wishes for the New Year.  Doug

Our January meeting was not very well attended, there being only a handful of members present, but this was not surprising in view of the very inclement weather being experienced at the time.  Apologies were received from several members including our two Eric’s who reported heavy snow well down the motorway where they live.   Because of a booked party, we were in the upstairs lounge, which as it happens, turned out to be ideal in view of our few numbers.

We did have quite a chat amongst ourselves looking foward to future meetings and making helpful suggestions.  It was decided that our February meeting would be the Annual General Meeting of the Club when the elections of the various officers would take place, as well as the submission of the audited accounts for the previous year.  (Without taking any thunder from the Treasurer’s report, I can indicate that the funds of the club are in a very healthy position, thanks to the good stewardship of all concerned.)

Ideas Needed
In preparation for this AGM it has been suggested that members be invited to put forward at the meeting any ideas they may have for the future benefit of the Club, and its members, particularly ways and means of improving playing standards.  Any suggestions will be most welcome – please think about this and come prepared to submit your ideas.  Peter reminded us that this year is the 10th Anniversary of the founding of our Club – my, how time does fly – and that we should have a special celebration by way of a party night and special concert with a guest artiste. Also there should be a contribution by club members of a specially rehearsed piece of music.  An excellent idea and one we can develop at the AGM.

The Sheffield Club
I was able to attend the Christmas Meeting of the Sheffield Club, when like us they had a party with celebrations and good food provided by members and some impressive raffle prizes.  The music played was of a high standard and well varied, both as ensemble and solo items.,  With it  being a special night, I rather think that there were more in attendance than normally.

It was a great night, which I thoroughly enjoyed, and I can say that if any of the Barnsley members are ever at a loss what to do on the third Tuesday of any month,  they could motor over to Sheffield to spend an evening with the Sheffield Club, when I know they will be made quite welcome.   (The venue is the Polish Club, Eccleshall Road Sheffield at 7.30 p.m. – you can always ring me for details of how to get there).

Blackpool Accordion Club
This year’s Blackpool International Accordion Festival takes place at Pontins’ HolidayVillage from the 19th to 24th February 2003 (Wednesday to Sunday) when the main Guest Artiste is Nikolia Ryskov from Russia, with other top-ranking accordionists.  It is earlier than usual and you will want your woollies on.  For further information or to book just ring 0870 604 5606

Alan Venn (a Lancashire organist) offers various Residential Musical Events throughout the year at both Blackpool and Llandudno (with Harry Hussey as the principal attraction) and you can get full details from Alan Venn on Bolton 01204 840279.

The Variety Band
Ray launches his latest venture on the 29th January, which is “A Variety Band”  (Ray’s words) which he hopes to start at an Inaugural Meeting at St. Mary’s Church, Bramall Lane Sheffield at 7.3O p.m.  If you would like to join in, just turn up on the night.  Ring Ray for any more details on Sheffield 2311495.

We welcome links to and from other accordion websites, please write to us about this, and hopefully we shall eventually get to each others meetings.
