The Newsletter February 2005
Barnsley Accordion Newsletters February 2005 written by chairman Peter Hinchliffe FEBRUARY MEETING 2005 Hello All News letter February 2005 Dear Members, We had another good constructive meeting at the beginning of the month, some splendid ideas put forward for members present to consider, no objections were made concerning the proposed increase to our club subscriptions, which is now £7-00, a year. This only covers the membership we now pay for our people to the Trades Club on top of our original fee and is a real bargain compared to charges made by other accordion clubs. Remember that we never apply admission charges on the occassions when we have guest artists to entertain us and booking fees for accordionists are getting more expensive. There were eleven members present at the last meeting, Alex the club secretary attended and made his valuable contribution to the club by providing a simple little exercise to be played on the bass side of the accordion, which can be used as an intro or ending to any piece of music, in the right key of course, Alex has also completed an arrangement of Irving Berlin`s " Play A Simple Melody " in four parts which we can try to play at the next meeting, this should be good fun and an interesting challenge to all players. Please continue to practise the music which you have been supplied with at the last two meetings, practise makes perfect, and it will improve our standard of playing together at our meetings. Charlie Watkins published his celebration issue of Accordion Today last week, 65 years in music, it is a very interesting magazine which he prints quarterly, if any member of the Barnsley Accordion Club would like to receive a copy of the magazine in future, please let me know at the next meeting and I will inform Charlie to put them on the mailing list, the magazine is supplied free of charge. He has been involved in the music industry for 65 years and he does a lot of work in promoting the accordion, he is also an accomplished player. Please take note of the telephone code number for Terry Hudson our club treasurer, although it had not been noticed, I have been quoting his old code number which he had at his last address before moving to his present one, sorry about that. I understand that our member Ray Burgon will be moving house again, but Ray will inform every one when this happens. Our next meeting will be on Wednesday 2-3-05, hope to see you all at the meeting, Alan Rodley has promised to bring his guitar and give us a tune and Alex tells me the new arrangement for us to play together should be rather fun so let`s have a good turnout to make the most of it. Best Wishes Peter Hinchliffe.
