The Newsletter March 2006
Barnsley Accordion Newsletters August 2006 written by chairman Peter Hinchliffe August MEETING 2006 Dear Members, With the holiday season almost over and the beautiful weather now changing into a more unsettled autumn, we are looking forward to an increase in attendance and activities at the Barnsley Accordion Clubs forthcoming meetings. Attendance figures during the summer months at the club meetings was greater than in the past in fact, the lowest number of members present at any of our meetings this year was twelve, I do remember occasions in the past when only five members have been present at a club meeting, and this was when our old dear departed friend Duggie was chairman. We have missed fellow members John Higham and Roger Van Loo, we hope they are both well and look forward to seeing them soon. On the day of the last meeting a young man who I have invited to our meetings several times, and who lives near The Trades, asked me to call at his home to pick up an old accordion, a Geraldo 36, which he has kindly donated to our club, although the instrument looks in good condition it is sadly out of tune, and the reed blocks are loose so if anyone fancies a challenge to refurbish the instrument let me know. Accordion Times International, and also Accordion Festivals have changed E-mail addresses from 1-8-06. to contact now use the following addresses - AccordionFestival@TalkTalk.Net and AccordionTimes@TalkTalk.Net I suppose that members taking the Accordion Times publication will be aware of these changes, but for those members who do not see the magazine this information will be most useful. A new arrangement of our carols is now ready only just in time for next meeting but Alex is hoping to start on this then with you. By special request it even has a keyboard accompaniment part, and he is hoping to eventually add a bass line part when he has time for later and a guitar chord part possibly too for our guitarist member. We have booked a guest artiste to entertain us at the October meeting, he is Mike O’Regan he will be playing a Roland accordion and he will demonstrate both of the Roland models for us, also he will make available one of the instruments for any of our members to try, if they are interested. Our fellow member Melvyn, Arthurs son, brought his Roland accordion to the last meeting and created a lot of interest, but although reedless, these instruments are capable of producing original accordion sounds as Melvyn demonstrated when he played solo, I tried to play Melvyn`s instrument and I found that the bellows require more effort when playing, than one would use when playing on an accordion fitted with reeds, but Melvyn says that you get used to this and don’t notice any difference after about three weeks of playing. Hoping to see you all at the meeting this Wednesday 6th September at around 7-30 pm, at the Trades Club, Barnsley. Best wishes Peter Hinchliffe
