Accordion Players of all standards from total beginner to expert are invited to join us at any of our meetings. Even if you just like the sound of the Accordion and want to sit and listen we shall be delighted to meet you.  All are welcome.

The club formerly met at about 8pm on the first Wednesday of each month at Barnsley Trades and Labour Club, Racecommon Road, Barnsley, South Yorkshire

From October 2003 however it will be on the First Tuesday of the month so that we will continue to retain the best facilities for our meetings at the Trades Club.

Accordion Newsletter August 2003 has been written by Secretary Alex Govier below

Dear Members

Sorry to make this so late, but I have had a lot on my plate recently computer work-wise and with the shop and have been waiting for things to be finalized for the club.

Peter`s Progress

After the relapse after infection from his heart bypass operation in Sheffield my latest information is that our chairman Peter Hinchliffe has returned home. In case he is still not well enough to see us at the next meeting all good wishes to you for health and everything, Peter.

The Day We Meet
This is not a romantic headline but a notification of our discussion and concensus of opinion at our last meeting, when we discovered that the trades club wanted to use their concert room regularly on Wednesdays in future.

As we want to hold some decent size concerts which might attract an audience a little too large for the upstairs room, and it is not always easy for members to drag their heavy instruments (their accordions!) up there some modification was called for.

We decided there could be advantages in going over to the first Tuesday in the month and will do so after this coming September meeting.

Stop the Clash!
One advantage is we will no longer clash with Wetherby Accordion Club which meets every Wednesday, to which we have lost one or two excellent members who wanted a more regular accordion meeting.

Some of their members would be able to come and see us for regular meetings and for special concerts.   Also of course our members will be able to visit Wetherby with a clear conscience that they are not spoiling our meetings (by not being with us, I mean!)

The Next Meeting is on the USUAL DAY this coming Wednesday 3rd September.

After that we will go over to the first Tuesday from October onwards so the following one will be on Tuesday October 1st.

A concert?
It was our intention to have a concert in October - Ray Burgon having kindly promised to get some artistes if we needed them but I have still to get hold of Terry for a final opinion on this one, in the circumstances that the trades club was embarrassed to report that on the 1st October they had a concert in the concert room themselves as a one-off occasion!

We have had some very cozy and successful concerts in the upstairs room before, and this one would not be too big an attendance, but I did want to consult before going ahead on this in view of the lack of availability of the concert room for it.

At The August Meeting

At the August meeting with about 18 members present we had some very useful discussions about all this, did our usual round-robin with many interesting playing contributions. We also had a chance to try out some accordion arrangements for group playing.

I was put in charge as musical director for this and thought we produced some very musically satisfying sounds, even when all playing the same line rather than in parts.

We are indebted to the usual suspects for providing the copies for this and I was very pleased to receive the thanks of members for my contribution, kindly expressed by Terry our treasurer.

See you next week all being well. Let`s make it a bumper occasion

All the best to all of you - Alex (secretary)

We welcome links to and from other accordion websites, please write to us about this, and hopefully we shall eventually get to each others meetings.
