The Newsletter April 2004
Barnsley Accordion Newsletters May2004 written by Chairman Peter Hinchliffe is below and note that you can still see the 2003 Christmas Party Pictures Christmas Party 2003 Photos - The Band - The Players - The Audience APRIL MEETING Hello All 18 people were in attendance at the meeting including four new
visitors, a family of three from Rotherham, and Alan Tranter from
Silkstone Common. Chris Collins the new member from Batley who joined
our club at the last meeting in March, brought his instrument
along to the meeting but he did not play because of an injury to
his arm, he was also the winner of the raffle prize. It was good
to see Ray Wainwright present at the meeting although he is having
problems with what seems to be a frozen shoulder. ANNUAL GENERAL MEETING It was decided to hold our annual general meeting on the night since we were well represented by a good cross section of members both old and new, it was agreed that we continue to run the club as was laid down by our founder members, no suggestions for changes being made GROUP PLAYING John Kenyon supplied music to members which we shall be able to use for our group playing at one of our future meetings, providing that we each practice our parts and become familiar with the pieces. We have a competent musical director in Alex who is doing a good job in leading us in our attempts to achieve a higher standard of playing as a group, concentrate on playing the right hand, keeping to the tempo which is most important. At the same time showing feeling for the melody. I understand that one of our fellow members is not very well, this is Frank Ponetio and we wish him a speedy recovery and look forward to seeing him at our meetings. Frank is the member who put the highest bid in for the Hohner accordion which was kindly donated by Alex to the club for auction GUEST ARTISTE Several members suggested at the meeting that they would like to have a concert night, the names of accordionists who would be willing to appear as guest artists for the evening were mentioned, but I have so far been unable to book anyone. David Vernon the accordionist who played at this years accordion festival at Rhyl, has a regular booking on Wednesday evenings, and is unavailable. There are other accordionists and entertainers, that we can approach in order to secure a booking, any suggestions can be put forward for consideration at our next meeting on Wednesday evening. Two accordionists, who are unknown to me, are featured in this weeks edition of the BARNSLEY CHRONICLE, they are playing every Monday until June 6, in aid of a charitable society, at the Pioneer Store, Eldon Street, Barnsley. Hope to see you all at the Barnsley Accordion Club meeting on Wednesday May 5. at 7-30.p.m. Best Wishes Peter Hinchliffe.
