Accordion Newsletter April 2003 has been written by our Chairman Peter Hinchliffe below

Hello Accordion Fans

We had seventeen members at the April meeting held in the newly refurbished concert room at the Barnsley Trades Club.

Ongoing Facilities

Alex was away and missed the meeting but the members present had a constructive discussion concerning certain issues which required to be sorted there and then with positive result, also I am pleased to be able to report that our future meetings are to carry on being held at the Trades Club, with the kind permission of the club officials. Terry our treasurer had meetings with them and obtained membership for some of our accordion club members.

Prizes, Players, and Cowboys

The winners of the prizes on offer were John Kenyon, Terry Hudson and Eric from Derby. Alan and John had been busy that afternoon playing at a country and western event, at a venue in Wakefield where most of the audience were dressed in cowboy gear complete with guns and pistols, never the less John and Alan managed to make it back to Barnsley for our meeting.

Melvyn Wright brought along to the meeting a custom built Galanti Super Dominator Accordion, which he had recently purchased on the internet from a vendor in America. It is a very nice instrument with a really rich and powerful organ-like tone.

We started the evening with a session of solos, managing to get around theroom twice, followed by a bit of busking led off by Melvin on his new Galanti accordion. Geoff Wright added extra variation by playing his concertina, and everyone seemed to enjoy this.

Other clubs info?

Ray went off to one side to give a little tuition to one of our members. Ray also suggested that he would like to see more news in our newsletter concerning the activities of other clubs, so if anyone has any information, hints or tips relevant to the accordion please forward the same to me for inclusion in our newsletter.

Our two Erics and their good ladies attended a concert in Derby, performed by Burton Accordion Club, which they very much enjoyed.

Food!!

The Steward and stewardess of the Trades Club have no objection to our taking food in to the concert room at the club, in fact with sufficient notice she would be willing to organise our catering requirements in future.

Best wishes
Peter Hinchliffe
