The Newsletter Jan 2006
Barnsley Accordion Newsletters Dec/Jan 2005 written by chairman Peter Hinchliffe Dec/Jan MEETING 2005/06 Hello All Dear Members, Sorry about the missed newsletter last month but I found myself with a load of extra duties placed upon myself because Jan my wife, had an operation to her right shoulder, just before Christmas, she is now on the road to recovery from the operation although it will be some time before she regains the use of her right arm. Christmas party night with Robert Thorne as the guest artiste supported on drums by his father, and our old friend Harry Hussey also present, turned out to be a very successful evening in all respects, there was ample food, because of the good attendance figures it did look as though we may have been tight on the catering. Members were once again extremely generous in the provision of prizes for the raffle, and the sale of raffle tickets went a long way towards defraying the costs of our enterainment. Many thanks to Maureen for her usual contibution to the sale of tickets, and taking care of the draw. We were very pleased to see Philip and Sandra Birkinshaw, and quite a few new faces at our Xmas party, the attendance was very high with a total count of forty three people being present, Robert Thorne was brilliant and he did two spots for us playing an exciting range of music. Our old friend Harry Hussey filled in by playing requests, and he also joined in with Ian Bell to play a few tunes. Our efforts into playing our Xmas Carols, directed by Alex, was almost perfect with no false starts, and all members playing in the same musical key, and last but not the least, the audience sang along with us, well done to all concerned, we seem to be moving in the right direction at last. New Year meeting , January 06 Eleven members made it to our meeting earlier this month, and a new member was welcomed into the club by the name of Robert Quigley, from Hoyland. He had made previous attempts to visit our club as he had seen our website but he was under the impression that we held our meetings on the first Tuesday of the month, he brought his accordion, a very nice Scandalli with mutes, and joined in with the rest of us. We had a discussion concerning the running of the club and matters in general before playing solo around the room, followed by a session of group playing directed by Ray. Chris, Stuart, and Alan on guitar played solo for us, all three are improving in their playing and gaining more confidence, I have to remind members that club subscriptions are due, and that Terry requires Trades Club membership cards to be returned to him for renewal at the next meeting please. Harry Hussey is booked to entertain us at our next meeting on Wednesday the first of February. It was decided that we would revert back to the old method of catering on this occasion, by taking your own food and eating someone else’s, So please bring along a little something, as we have done in the past. If you are not sure what to bring a selection of sandwiches will be well received, I doubt if Jan will be fit enough to supply the usual hot baked potatoes, but we will manage. Hope to see be seeing you on Wednesday 1--2--06, at about 7-30 pm at the Barnsley Trades Club, with Harry Hussey . Best Wishes, Peter Peter Hinchliffe.
